Happy New Year! We are looking forward to a wonderful start to the 2018 season. The weather in December was nice but we are off to a chilly start in January.
The golf maintenance team continues to implement the bi-monthly foliar spray program to all the tees, fairways, collars and approaches. We will continue to monitor the program and make any necessary adjustments as the weather changes. The overseeding of tees is now fully established and will help us maintain the tees throughout the winter months.
The coquina areas are in the process of being refreshed by adding additional material. The maintenance staff has completed cleaning/painting the tee markers and will move to cleaning and painting of the yardage markers in the tees and fairways. We are also in the process of replacing all the ropes with newer and brighter ropes to make it easier to see. Please help us with traffic control by keeping carts out of the roped off areas.
The bunker faces and surrounds are in the process of being sprayed with post and pre emerge herbicide for weed control. You will notice a yellow discoloration in the treated areas. This is temporary and will return to normal color. The maintenance staff has applied additional fertilizer and nematode control to the bunker surrounds and tee surrounds to help strengthen the turf in these weaker areas.
The greens continue to respond well to the winter fertilizer program. We will continue to top-dress the greens on a weekly basis to increase firmness and speed in them.
We look forward to a great start to 2018 and look forward to seeing you on the course soon!
