September has been a busy month for the golf course maintenance staff. We have continued our hard work on getting the new grass on the greens to fill in. We are currently in the grooming phase of the greens renovation project. Over the next month we are scheduled to aerate, verticut, topdress, and roll the greens. These cultural practices are necessary to smooth out the putting surface. We are currently on track to have the greens ready for November 1.
The maintenance staff has shifted into high gear to make sure that the course is ready for the golfing season. We have several small projects that we will be doing over the next month. These projects include laying sod in bare areas around cart paths, installing drainage in a few wet areas around tees, freshening up some of the coquina areas, and tree trimming. Along with that, we will continue herbicide applications to control any weeds.
As we take care of the final details for having the course ready for November, we are excited about opening the new greens for play. We look forward to seeing the golfers return to the course, and are confident that everyone will be pleased with the results of this summer’s project.
