Winter is finally here with cooler temperatures. These cooler temperatures have slowed the growth of the turf which has allowed us to take the time we normally use for mowing and refocus it on detail work on the course.
As we move into our tournament season, we have worked to increase the green speed. The cooler temperatures have slowed the growth of the turf on the greens. This combined with our growth regulator applications and rolling/topdressing program have helped the green speed increase. We will continue this program through the winter season.
The winter season also brings with it a different set of weed issues. While we are on a good program to prevent the winter weeds from germinating, we do have a few isolated patches in the rough. Please know that we are working diligently to spray these as they appear so they will not become an unsightly issue.
With the increased play from the winter season, traffic management becomes an issue in keeping the course in good condition. We have been placing ropes around the course to manage traffic in the worn areas. Along with that, we kindly ask that everyone help us with this by being mindful of where golf carts are driven so as to avoid any areas that are worn from too much traffic.
We hope that everyone has had a good start to the New Year, and look forward to seeing you on the course.
